SUMMARY
European Curriculum Development Project in Neuro-Otology: Harmonizing Knowledge and Teaching
Due to considerable progress in evaluation and diagnosis, Neuro-Otology has progressively developed within the field of otorhinolaryngology (ORL). Simultaneously, new therapeutic interventions have emerged in different centres across Europe, each centre having a different expertise. However, the official recognition of expertise in the field has not yet developed. So, this CD project in Neuro-Otology, multicentric and trans-national, is a way to obtain recognition and guarantee high quality training in Europe. Over a period of three years and through a series of business meetings, the project seeks to:
- Bring together 20 European partner university centres in order to take advantage of each partner’s expertise
- Create a comprehensive 2-year Masters level curriculum destined for ORL specialists
- Incorporate student and staff mobility and IT such as eLearning and video-conferencing as a fundamental part of the curriculum
- Create assessment standards and systems
- Publish a ‘Guide to Studies in Neuro-Otology,’ in all the languages of the EU and distribute throughout Europe
- Expand the network of university centre partners
- Create pedagogical tools
- Create an informational website
